Luchando Para Sobrevivir Group's story

Jairo, 33, is the father of two children. He is a farmer and grows basic grains. For 20 years he has been cultivating the land as he learned to do from his father. He began at age 15 and over time he gained a partner and inherited land from his father where he currently produces an average of eight batches of coffee. With this income he helps cover household expenses and pays back debts he has taken on.

During down time he works as a day laborer so he can provide the family with what is needed. He also does other work such as growing basic grains for family consumption and some quintals to sell. This is so he can buy maintenance supplies for the farm and help pay workers.

He is applying for a Kiva loan through Fundenuse to buy farm supplies to plant basic grains and coffee.

He belongs to the Luchando Para Sobrevivir Group together with Santos, Henrry and Estanislao. His next goal is to renovate the house he has on his farm and in the future he plans to be able to buy a patch of land to grow coffee.
