A loan helped me provide online training towards professional licensing for youth.

Sakinah's story

I am a small business owner, educator, and single mother. When I was 15 years old, my school district went on strike and I got a job as a Barber Apprentice while we were out of school. I now have 6 Professional Licenses from 3 states, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania to provide training hours in Barbering, Cosmetology, Massage Therapy, Skin Care, Natural Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology.

Educating is my passion and training starts at home with my own children.

My son graduated 13th in his class of over 300. He was the 1st Black President of the National Honors Society and the FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, as well as captain of both the wrestling and football teams. He is a Junior honor student-athlete at Georgetown University and completed an Internship at JG Wentworth, Washington DC 2019, and was invited to complete another Internship at CitiBank New York City summer 2020.

My daughter enrolled in the Culinary Arts program from ages 14 to 17 years old and in Fall 2020 she will attend IUP, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts to study Hospitality and Management. She was recognized as the Culinary Student of the Quarter 2019 and was inducted into the National Technical Honors Society 2020.
