A loan helped a member to buy basic and personal use basket products such as face masks, soap, and antibacterial gel.

Catalinas Group's story

Many of Puente de Amistad's 30,000 clients have more than one business in order to generate more income. Sandy, the secretary of the Communal Bank of Friendship Bridge "Catalinas" makes traditional textiles with the technique of the backstrap loom. To increase income, she also has a convenience store. Sandy shares: "The success of my business lies in good customer service and selling innovative product." She is 24 years old, attended college for a year, and lives with her husband and 2-year-old boy. She is applying for the 9th Kiva loan to buy basic and personal use basket products such as face masks, soap, and antibacterial gel.

Sandy and 6 other Kaqchikel women live in the Sololá department / state. They proudly wear their colorful turquoise clothing. Most of these women did not attend school but participate in the Puente de Amistad "Microcredit Plus" program (loans, education, health). To empower themselves, they learn about business, health, family, and women's issues. This month's emphasis is on the importance of good hygiene, including hand washing, surface disinfection, wearing a mask, and social distance.

Sandy and her friends could not achieve sustainable development without the support of Kiva lenders. You play a vital role in the lives of these women by financing your loans. Thank you!
