Jamie's story

Being a New Orleans native, you are surrounded by food, it is a food mecca. I fell in love with cooking it was right in the kitchen with my mom as a child. Watching her cook for us was a magical experience. She taught me how fresh ingredients and herbs can make a difference in the taste and nutrition of your food. She used to let me chop and taste the raw seasonings when I helped her prepared a meal. She always said fresh is better than dried, but each can be used. I learned how to cook by smell from my mother. She used to call it my secret weapon.
When I started to have a health scare. I had to find ways to prepare the food I love in a healthier fashion. Then one day like a breath of fresh air I came upon my mom’s recipes. I started to use them and immediately could feel and see the difference. I decided that this should be shared with the community because people who have certain health issues may not know that just by changing one little thing can be the start of a healthier and longer life. Most importantly you don’t have to give up your red beans and rice or fried wings. I started catering baby showers and gave rave reviews. It was then I realized how much people loved New Orleans finger foods and how it is not always readily available for personal consumption.
