A loan of $625 helped purchase of cereals.

Seydou's story

Mr. Seydou Koné is a married man who is 32 years old, monogamous and father to seven children. He lives in a traditional family in Soromana, which lies in the sub-prefecture of Fakola in the prefecture of Kolondièba (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Seydou sells cereals and is very much sought after. In order to satisfy his customer base, which is growing markedly, he has joined Soro Yirwaso's loan program and is taking out his first loan. With this loan he is planning on buying 400kg of peanut grains and 1000 kg of millet, which he will stock to resell at a time when the price will be higher.

He gets his supplies on the market in Soromana on fair days and in surrounding villages. He resells to retailers and consumers at Bamako, for cash. He envisages making an average motnhly profit of 40,000FCFA. The profit will cover school fees, as well as health and food expenses, and the rest will be reinvested in his business.
