A loan of $475 helped purchase of construction materials (cement, iron bars, sand and paint and other items).

Joao Miguel's story

João Miguel U. was born in Inhambane City, Inhambane Province in southern Mozambique. He is 46 years old, married and the father of two children, ages 23 years and 2 years. The elder daughter, who is married, lives in South Africa. He finished three years of university study in electronics. He lives in a rented house with his family and supports a niece who lives with him.

João left Inhambane when he was transferred to Beira Province for work, and in 2009 he was transferred to Maputo. For more than 30 years he has worked for the Ministry of Defense as an electronic engineer. He has no employees and has a salary of 11,957 meticais per month, which he uses for household expenses while managing to save some in his bank account.

He has never had loans from other banks. He learned about Hluvuku through co-workers who are also customers of this institution. This is his first loan. He is asking for 16,000 meticais, which he will use to buy construction materials (cement, iron bars, sand and paint and other items) to renovate his old house in Machava neighborhood.

João promises to pay off this loan on time so he can take out other loans. In the future he would like to ask for more loans to continue renovations on his house and to begin a project on his two plots in Bobole and Mulotane neighborhoods.
