Mateo's story

Mateo L. is a 49 year old man. He lives with his wife and their child in a community called Santa Fe. It is located in Los Chiles in the Alajuela province. This community stands out as being a mountainous area and for being very close to the northern border of our country. Its primary economical activities are livestock and farming. The specific agricultural activity is planting basic grains, sugarcane, and oranges.

Mateo has farmed all of his life. He primarily grows vegetables, which have always given good results. But, due to the lack of money to keep his farm in good shape, it has stopped producing good harvests.

That is why Mateo needs a loan for 605,000 colones to buy grass seed, fertilizer, herbicides, and all that is necessary to get the land in optimal condition to start producing like it used to and improve his vegetable sales.

Mateo is a member of the Manatial de Santa Fe Communal Bank, one of the 100 organizations that are part of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his first loan, and he plans to use it to grow more on a personal level and economically. He is very grateful for the access to the loan provided by this type of business.
