A loan helped to buy raw materials to ensure her hammock business continues smoothly despite global uncertainty.

Kaesinee's story

Kaesinee (or, as friends call her, Kang) lives in the remote village of Huay Hom, in the mountains of Phrae Province, Thailand. She is married, but her husband has gone abroad looking for better work because their small farming plot does not earn enough to support their family.

In the meantime, Kang has been working to improve her skills as a hammock weaver. She says she doesn't know what she would do if she couldn't make hammocks. "I know I wouldn't be earning any money, though!" she says.

The money Kang earns weaving hammocks helps pay bills and helps to buy food for her and her child. She's also purchased some life-changing appliances, like a rice cooker, fans, a refrigerator, and a cell phone.

She feels proud that, with some help from her Kiva loan, she will be able to take care of her family through weaving while her husband is away. She says, "For me, weaving hammocks is almost as relaxing as lying in them!"

Kang's loan will also ensure that her work isn't impacted by the global pandemic. Especially in this time of global uncertainty, Kang is grateful for your support to continue empowering her journey!

This loan is special because:

It creates employment opportunities for vulnerable populations living in remote rural areas.
