A loan of $550 helped purchase seeds, bird droppings, and fertilizers.

Elena's story

Elena is 54 years old. She lives in her own home with her husband Fidel (age 56), who is a farmer, and their three young children who help them with the daily work. Beneath the blue mountain sky, this hardworking woman begins her farm work each day. She wakes up when the first rays of light appear and heads to the fields to look after and maintain her crops. Elena grows potatoes, peas, and beans. During the harvest season, her husband helps with gathering the produce. She is later rewarded for her work when she sells her crops to different wholesalers in the area, who in turn distribute her products throughout the city. According to Elena, the work in the fields is not complicated since everyone in her family helps each other to move forward. Being an enterprising woman, she plans to increase her planting of peas since the asking price in the market for this legume remains stable.

This is her third loan with MFP. Elena expresses her satisfaction with the work of all the members of her Communal Bank since they are very punctual with their loan payments and remain unified during their meetings. Elena plans to invest her loan in the purchase of high quality seeds for planting peas and potatoes. In addition, she will acquire bird droppings and fertilizers so that she can enhance her crops and obtain a good harvest.
