A loan of $375 helped purchasing small birds and balanced feed for expanding her business of raising and selling poultry.

Albertina's story

Albertina is 45 years old and single. She lives alone in the small community of Lagunas, a rural area in the district of Mórrope, in Lambayeque province. The area is located one hour and fifteen minutes from the city of Chiclayo.

For more than 20 years she has made a living raising and selling small animals, which has given her the means that she needs to live. She raises poultry in some pens that are situated behind her home. When the birds have grown to a good size she sells them to businesspeople in the area; they in turn resell the birds at the wholesale market in the city of Chiclayo.

This activity also allows Albertina to stay active, since she lives alone, though her closest neighbors are her relatives, and all of them support each other. Her relatives are encouraging her to expand her business by purchasing some small birds and balanced feed so that they can grow properly; that way she will be able to earn more profits and get ahead little by little. That is the reason why Albertina is asking for her first loan from Kiva partner Edpyme Alternativa—a loan of 1000 soles that will help her to achieve her goal.

Albertina is a hard-working woman who really likes to feel useful and to help others; in the community where she lives she is known to be an easygoing and responsible woman. Her greatest desire is to make some more improvements to her home using basic materials, since the recent rains have caused structural damage to her home.
