A loan helped to purchase poultry and thus expand her agricultural enterprise.

Margaret's story

Hello world! Meet Margaret, a smallholder farmer based in Vihiga, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands that favor large-scale grain farming as well as dairy and crop farming. She is a wife and is the mother of four lovely children.

Margaret has managed to send all four of her children to school, thanks to the profit that she gets from her mixed farm. She chose to join Juhudi Kilimo to have access to loans, which smallholder farmers in Kenya are typically deprived of, due to the nature of their economic activity and meager incomes.

Margaret is requesting a loan through Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo, to purchase poultry.

She has undergone training on loan management and is educated on how to utilize loan funding. This has boosted her confidence about how she intends to spend the money and realize returns. Margaret will use her loan to generate enough income to take care of high farming costs and to expand her agricultural enterprise.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
