Jason's story

My name is Jason Bower. I was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia. Newport News is a relatively poverty stricken area, mostly reliant on the shipbuilding industry where my father worked. I started playing the trumpet in 6th grade and used this skill to obtain a full scholarship to Christopher Newport University. I was the first in my family to obtain a college degree (BA in Music Education and Jazz Studies) and used that accomplishment to get out of Newport News and lead a stable, healthy life. I worked by day as the General Manager for Music Outlet in Manassas, Va and by night as a professional jazz trumpet player in Washington DC until my wife and I moved to Colorado to open Castle Rock Music and raise our family of 4. My wife is a local high school teacher and we have two sons, 10yrs and 14yrs. Music had a significant role in bettering my life opportunities and I want to give that back to others. I strive to make my music store a community where people gather, support one another and explore their passion. My store regularly sponsors events and concerts in the historic downtown of Castle Rock. To further these ends, I currently serve as Mayor Pro Tem of Castle Rock and work closely with the town to create a vibrant downtown that fosters culture, music and community.
