Jeremias Pedro's story

Jeremias Pedro B. was born in Manjacaze District, Gaza Province in southern Mozambique. He is 50 years old, married and the father of 5 children, ages 20,17, 15, 9 and 6. The four youngest children go to school. Jeremias finished seventh grade but did not continue because he was drafted into military service. He lives in his own house with his family and does not support anyone other than his children.

He left Manjacaze to go to Boane after his discharge from the military in 1987, and he came in search of a job and better living conditions. For more than eleven years he has worked for a security company. He has no employees and earns a salary of 4,817 meticais, plus another 5,000 meticais per month from his own business. He uses this money for household expenses and also manages to save some in his bank account.

Jeremias has never had loans from other banks. He learned about Hluvuku through friends who are also customers of this institution. This is his first loan. He is asking for 20,000 meticais, which he will use to buy chicks, feed and vitamins to improve his business.

He promises to pay off this loan on time so he may take out other loans. In the future he would like to ask for more loans to continue with his business and to buy a vehicle to help with his business.
