A loan of $1,025 helped purchase of cereals.

Zoumana's story

Mr Zoumana Koné is a married man who is 53 years old and father to 22 children. He lives with his three wives and their children in a large traditional family in the village of Soromana, in the sub-prefecture of Fakola, in the prefecture of Kolondièba (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). After leaving school after the first basic cycle (according to the Malian education system), Zoumana Koné tried his hand at several economic activities, notably the sale of clothes, shoes and cups, but he did not have any success so he decided to turn to buying cereals. This activity (which he learnt with his older brother) has been a success and he has a shop to sell his goods. With ten years experience in this activity he is well known and sought after.

Zoumana Koné is on his fifth loan, having repaid the four previous loans without problem. With this loan he wants to buy from producers 1000kg of rice, 500kg of peanuts and 500kg of millet in order to resell them for cash and on a retail basis to retailers and consumers.

With this loan, Mr. Zoumana Koné is counting on making a monthly profit of 100,000FCFA which will be used to extend his shop, to cover the family expenses (health, schooling, food) and to buy some animals.
