Phem Y., 48, is a widowed farmer who lives with one of her children in the Siem Reap province. She is a farmer who works for less than US$1 each day. The weather conditions have been difficult for farming in Cambodia this past year. This factor has played into a difficult economic year for many Cambodians, Phem Y. included. In light of this economic difficulty, she is asking for a loan of US$1,000 to purchase a hand tractor. Phem Y. was not available for the picture so her son is pictured instead.
