A loan helped to buy spare parts, oil, and tyres.

Pauline's story

Pauline is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 3 years, Pauline has been working hard to manage her taxi, and has a taxi for transporting people.

To help expand her business, Pauline has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy spare parts, oil, and tyres, and will help Pauline to generate greater profits. Pauline will be able to realise more profits and, therefore, she will be able to also cater for her family, hence improving on their standards of living. Pauline hopes that in the future she will be able to buy another taxi.

Pauline is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
