A loan of $425 helped to buy onions and other condiments.

Rokia's story

Rokia Traoré, 24, is single and the mother of one child. She lives in her father's traditional household in the Pelengana Nord area of Ségou (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Having left school in the early grades of primary school (Malian education system) because she had had to repeat several grades, she became interested in selling condiments, which she has been doing in the Château market of the town of Ségou for three years now.

Wishing to increase her working capital to satisfy her clientele, she came to Soro Yiriwaso. She is on her first individual loan and intends to use the money to buy 300 kg of onions and various other packets of condiments. She buys her inventory in the Office du Niger zone (Dougabougou, Séribala etc.)

Madame Rokia Traoré sells for cash or credit to a clientele mostly made up of women. She hopes to make a monthly profit of 60,000 F CFA which will allow her to support herself since she is single and the mother of a child and to help her father cover certain family expenses.
