A loan helped to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business.

'Alisi's story

‘Alisi is 45 years old. Her husband is a fisherman and they have five children. They are all attending school.

'Alisi runs a business making tapas [patterned cloths from mulberry tree bark], where different types and sizes of tapas are made by her and some other women in their village. They gather at 'Alisi's house once a week and make these tapas. 'Alisi also self-decorates her tapas, then sells them.

She also prepares soft tapas and sells them to the women who might need it, so they will not waste time preparing them for the tapa-making as they have been prepared already. This is an extra flow of cash for her family.

She is hoping to use her loan money to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business. 'Alisi always dreams of buying her family a vehicle for their transportation.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
