María Guillermina's story

Mrs. María Guillermina is a member of the Nuevo Porvenir (New Future) Communal Bank. She lives in the Cumbe parish locality, filled with natural rural scenes that offer spiritual peace, far from the bustle of great cities. Its people are kind and warm with the tourist, no matter your origin. Here most adults, including women, dedicate themselves to cultivating the earth, while most young people have migrated in search of a better future.

María Guillermina is 58 years old, married, and has produced 7 children, 3 of whom are married. Two of these live independently while the 3rd shares the parent's roof and helps with household expenses, as do the remaining 3 single brothers as well. Besides providing for expenses they also help with university costs for their younger brother. María's husband has his own brass works shop, and despite everyone's efforts, they still can't count on their own home – they live in a rental house.

María has worked with her communal bank for 12 years, maintaining excellent links with her fellow members. She sells meals at the cattle market each Wednesday, as well as on weekends in the center of Cumbe. The remaining days she sells coffee with tamales on the streets of her community.

With the loan she is requesting, she will buy pots, tableware, plates, as well as rice, sugar, salt, and other products necessary for preparing these meals. Her goal is to finally have her own house in the future not too far off.
