Forjando Sueños Group's story

This community bank is called Forjando Sueños (Forging Dreams) and is made up of 16 members who sell used clothing, jewellery, perfume, vegetables, firewood and coal, as well as offering dressmaking services. Kiva interviewed Teresa, the president of the group. In the photo she is seated second to the left, wearing glasses. Teresa sells milk products, butter and artisanal cheeses, which she distributes from door to door. Her dream is to have an established business in the city centre so that she can improve her quality of life. She will invest this loan in merchandise, bags and containers. Teresa said that she very much appreciates Fondo Esperanza's quick delivery of loans. Temuco is the capital of the Araucanía region. It is located 670 kilometres south of Santiago (the capital of Chile) and possesses a series of lake-side spa resorts and striking native flora and fauna. This region is also noteworthy for being the region where 50% of the existing indigenous Mapuche community live.
