A loan of $1,025 helped remodeling of Lucia's Business.

Lucia De Socorro's story

When many people in the neighborhood of La Paz in Barranquilla get married, remodel their home or have another need, it is common for them to look for Lucía C. S. in order to ask her to make a wedding dress, a bedroom set, or another second hand article. Lucía has spent more than 25 years working, from the beginning buying and selling clothing and shoes. Now she also has motorcycles, cars, and furniture. Despite her many years in business, she has not had a location to sell her wares, and this is why she wants to do with the loan she is asking for: She plans to remodel in front of her house in order to have a place to sell her merchandise.

Lucía began with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo about 25 years ago when she met with a group of women from the neighborhood and began dressmaking with her cousin, before she dedicated herself totally to selling and buying merchandise. Thanks to the help of the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, she has been able to build a house and improve the lives of her three children, who are currently between 26 and 30 years of age. She has had to do this alone, as she is the female head of the family. Her greatest dream is to leave a business to each of her children so that they might not depend on her, and with this goal two of them are studying in SENA (a Colombian vocational college).
