Jappo Liggey (Asf) N°8 Group's story

Jappo Ligguey (ASF) is a mixed association composed of multiple individuals running small enterprises. It has been created in 2009 by a group of women who wanted to bring together all their peers in the district of Angle Serigne Fallou (ASF) under the slogan “mutual aid for doing work.” The group is led by Mrs. Marie N. Diouf and is organized into multiple sub-groups of five, as advised by the agent of the Moda Kane credit union, so that all members can better benefit from U-IMCEC services. Thus several sub-groups have requested a loan of 500,000 West African francs, which will be divided equally among the members.

The Jappo Liggey subgroup No. 8 is managed by Mrs. Khady S., 59 years of age. She has been selling peanuts, “ niébé" [a local type of black-eyed beans] and millet from her home for the past eight years.

The other members of the subgroup she manages are Mrs. Sokhna N. Gaye, who sells “thiouraye” incense [a traditional mixture of grains and fragrant wood that is burnt with coal or charcoal]. ice cream and fruit juices; Mrs. Ndéye S., who sells breakfast foods and onions; Mr. Papa Moudou M., who sells second-hand clothing at the central market of Thiès; and Mrs. Adama Guèye, who also sells second-hand clothing at the weekly markets.

In this group: Khady, Sokhna Gaye, Ndéye, Papa Modou, Adama
