A loan of $650 helped a member buy palm-oil and rice.

Kamara Group's story

Meet members of the K. Group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. These businesswomen have come together to form a group in order to request a loan of SLL 500,000 for each woman from SMT/Kiva lenders. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and, consequently, improve their living conditions.

This group’s leader is Isatu K., who is pictured on the left. The forty-seven-year-old was born in Kalamgba in northern Sierra Leone. She is a widow with five children, two of whom still attend secondary school. For two years, Isatu has been selling firewood. However, with this loan, she will invest it in palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil) and rice.

In this group: Isatu, Kattie, Zainab, Isatu, Baby
