A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as hybrid seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, in order to improve her yields and get a bumper harvest to sell and elevate her family's living standards.

Maurine's story

Maurine, 32-year-old mom of 3, is a middle-aged smallholder farmer. She is a wise farmer, who neighbors and fellow farmers respect as a mentor. Maurine farms a small plot of land in the green, lush hills near Eldoret, in the Rift Valley region of Kenya. Like many other farmers in the region, she has been planting maize as a staple crop for as long as she can remember. Over time, the fertility of her land has started to dwindle, and whenever she plants maize, the yields go down with each season. Maurine’s farm has also been affected by weeds.

In the modern world, agriculture has become exceedingly dynamic, therefore upgrading the kind of inputs that are being used in the sector today. On this note, there is a need to use improved farming inputs for effective production.

Today, Maurine is requesting a loan from Juhudi Kilimo via Kiva lenders to buy farm inputs, such as hybrid seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, to improve her farm's output. Through this loan, Maurine is going to increase her crop production, and this will translate to an improved income level.

This loan will change Maurine's living standards, and there is no doubt that, if you invest in her, 2020 will be a great year for her.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
