Jane is a 35-year-old woman living in a small town called Masindi, Uganda. Jane is married to a pump attendant and together they have five children. Looking after five children in an economy like Uganda’s means she and her husband have to work hard to make ends meet for the family. Jane operates a hardware shop in which she sells cement and iron sheets among other items. She has been in the business for five years and she says it’s a good business with hardships faced during the rainy season when construction is halted, thus affecting her sales. This is her first loan from HOFOKAM, intended to enable her to buy iron sheets and cement for resale in her shop.
