A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as high-quality certified seeds to improve her farming, and as a caring mom, give her child a better future.

Juliet's story

Juliet is a 24-year old mother of one child and an ever-smiling woman who feels happy to be part of Kiva.

She is a mixed dairy and crop farmer who has farmed for the last ten years. Through farming, she has sent her child to school. Juliet was born into a family where farming skills were passed on from one generation to another. She did not have any other way of earning an income, so she chose to venture into farming. Through continuous involvement in crop and animal farming, Juliet is able to provide a meal for her family three times a day.

Due to various farm practices such as monocropping and continuous cropping, her farm soil has lost its fertility. She also suffers losses brought about by various pests and diseases. Juliet is requesting this loan so that she can buy fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to use on her farm. She believes that these inputs will help her improve her farm yield and therefore increase her income. She is confident that she will be able to repay her loan and expand her farm.

This loan will surely empower this hardworking woman as the world prepares to celebrate women.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
