A loan helped to buy more quality dried pandanus leaves and other contributing materials for her mats.

Matelita's story

In every Fijian household, traditional hand-woven mats adorn the floors to provide a custom touch to the home. Matelita (49) has been weaving mats for 3 years and has become known for her unique designs and patterns among the people of Saru. Due to the rise in interest for her products, she is requesting a loan to help her weave and sell her mats on a larger scale, so that she may also support her family of 6. With the money obtained from the loan, Matelita has planned to purchase weaving equipment that she needs to create beautifully woven mats for her customers.
