A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Benson's Group's story

Pictured above is Benson, often described as an extremely friendly person. He is 36 years old and has 5 children. As a group leader, he is representing his group of 6 farmers in Kakamega B (North) District, Kenya.

Benson is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that he is able to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds, which is why he decided to join in the first place. Benson says that he is happy to have made that decision because, since he first joined in 2017, he has had a healthier life due to better nutrition, which has improved his day-to-day life significantly. Benson will use the profits from this season to save more money for the future.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 2.5 acres. Given that a member of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive 1 solar light.

In this group: Benson, Ali, Vincent, Nawire, Nipha, Francis

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
