A loan helped to buy more kava supplies.

Maria's story

Kava [a drink made from the root of the kava plant] is widely consumed in Fiji and provides village women with a source of income. Maria currently runs a small food canteen from home and wishes to add kava to her stock. Although Maria's husband has a stable income, it is not enough to support the whole family of 5.

By selling kava, she sees it as a means of making ends meet for her family. She is seeking a loan to assist in her business in terms of buying more kava supplies from local farmers.

With the extra cash from her new venture, Maria will be able to meet her living expenses and her children’s expenses from their lunches to transportation costs.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
