A loan helped a member to buy cost-efficient maize seeds and fertilizer for the coming harvesting season, as well as solar lights.

Serila's Group's story

Pictured above is Serila, often described as an extremely hard-working individual. She is 53 years old and, as a group leader, she is representing her group of nine farmers in Mumias district, Kenya. The group will use this loan to purchase a total of eight solar lights as well as seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 6.5 acres.

Serila is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that she is able to get the best-quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Serila says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2013, she has learned a lot from farming training, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Serila will use the profits from this season to invest in a business.
