Paz Y Amor 1,2 Group's story

Jaqueline is the coordinator of her group, Paz y Amor (Peace and Love), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients generally (many of whom recently emigrated to the Dominican Republic from Haiti).

Jaqueline’s group is located in the areas surrounding Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, an area famous for its natural beauty and its tourism industry, where (outside of the all inclusive resorts) running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home there in a simple structure with her longterm partner and their six children.

Jaqueline is excited to be taking her eighth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business running a general store by purchasing clothing, beans and rice to sell to the members of her community.

Jaqueline will use her profits to invest in her home by building a wall and in her children by purchasing shoes and uniforms for school. She also has a dream of one day traveling to Panama and she would like to save money for that. She thanks you all for your support.

In this group: Jaqueline, Lemania, Ana, Jose, Dieulene, Santo, Dina, Claire, Benita, Philomene
