A loan of $425 helped purchase tires & pay for his driver's license renewal.

Sergio Abelardo's story

Sr. Sergio is a client who has been working with Emprender since 2006. He is currently in his sixth loan cycle. During the day, Sergio works for a construction company in the hills of Achumani. He is responsible for transporting materials and other items that his company has requested. Sergio receives a salary every two weeks and works just about every night driving a “trufi” (a taxi that travels a set destination) along Route #1. His wife also works for the same construction company in human resources. Both of them are young and have a small child who is looked after by Sergio’s mother.

The loans he receives from Emprender are generally small and used for vehicle maintenance. For this loan cycle, the funds he requested will be used to pay for his driver’s license renewal as well as purchase tires. Sergio and his family live at his mother’s house in the Chasquipampa district. Over the years, he has handled his payments responsibly and expects to do the same with this loan. He is extremely grateful to Emprender and Kiva for demonstrating their confidence in him by providing this loan.
