A loan of $1,000 helps a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Sheila's Group's story

Sheila, pictured above, has been a farmer for 20 years. She is now proud to represent her group of 12 farmers in Lugari District. She is 65 years old, married and has 4 children.

Sheila likes to think of herself as a very friendly person. She has been working alongside One Acre Fund since 2017. She decided to represent her group because she wanted to gain leadership skills. She says that being part of the One Acre Fund community has meant that she has been able to consistently feed her family. Sheila plans to use the profits from this coming season to send her children to school.

In total, Sheila’s Group will receive inputs to cultivate 11.5 acres of land. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 2 solar lights.

In this group: Sheila, Anna, Esther, Fellystus, Florence, Frankline, Jeremiah, Dickson, Mildred, Paul, Jeruto, Scolasticah

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
