A loan of $525 helped to buy peas and fertilizer.

Adolfo's story

Adolfo is 45 years old and separated from his wife. They have a 12-year old daughter called Fabiola who lives with Adolfo's mother Eluisa aged 70. Adolfo makes sure she doesn't lack for anything.

Adolfo is a farmer. Since he was a little boy, he has looked up to his father as an example of a person who overcomes difficulties and perseveres, virtues that are important if you want to get ahead.

Harvest time, especially the harvest of potatoes and olluco (Peruvian tuber), is very hard work which requires a lot of effort. However, the reward is the money he earns which pays for his own expenses and those of his mother.

As well as farming, Adolfo raises animals such as cows which bring in additional income. However, it is hard to manage by himself as he doesn't have any family members to help him. He has to contract out the work.

In the future he would like to get more fields and increase both production and quality. His daughter is his motivation--he wants to provide her with the best he can.

This is his fourth loan with Kiva partner MFP and he is clearly keen to improve his life. His community group is his second family and he enjoys working with them because they share the same goals. With the S/.2500 he plans to buy two bags of fertilizer and a sack of pea seeds.
