A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, as well as a solar light.

Zaina's Group's story

Zaina's Group is formed by 10 farmers in Mumias District and is being represented by Zaina, who is the group leader pictured above. She is 65 years old and has 8 children. Zaina has been a farmer for more than 20 years and is often referred to as a very experienced farmer.

Zaina isn’t new to One Acre Fund, she actually joined the program in 2016 and has since noticed her life has changed; especially in the sense that she has been able to consistently feed her family. This year, Zaina will not only get fertilizer and maize seeds as part of her loan, but will also purchase a solar light. She is very excited about this addition and now she will be able to reduce the consumption of paraffin fuel and therefore save more money.

Using this loan, Zaina's Group will purchase a total of 3 solar lights and use the farming inputs received to plant a total of 5.75 acres.

In this group: Zaina, Florence, Janepher, Ibrahim, Benson, Joel, Zena, Sarah, Stella, Pius

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
