This village bank loan consists of ten people who live in Pring village in Takeo province. All the members plan to use their loans for different purposes. Mrs. Sruon S. is the village bank president selected by all the members. She and her husband, Mr. Sochy Or, are farmers who own 0.5-hectare of land to grow rice to support their family. They have a problem because their field is ready to be harvested but they do not have enough money to do so. Thus, Mrs. Sruon S. decided to apply for a loan to hire farm laborers to harvest the rice. She wants to use the rest of the loan to start a new business and buy some piglets to breed. She is the mother of four children, three of whom attend the local public school, while the youngest is five years old.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
