A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Jane's Group's story

Pictured above is Jane, often described as an extremely hard-working individual. She is 61 years old and has six children. Jane is representing her group of 10 farmers in Teso District, Kenya.

Jane is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that she is able to earn enough to feed her family, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Jane says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2015, she has had a healthier life due to better nutrition, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Jane will use the profits from this season to send her children to school.

The group will use this loan to purchase seed and fertilizer to plant a total of 6.25 acres. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive one solar light.

In this group: Jane, Linet, Francis, Berta, Kasmir O, Okoluo, Chrisantus, Anecet P, Pamela, Roselyn

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
