A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, as well as two solar lights.

Violet's Group's story

Violet, pictured above, has five children and is representing her group, formed by 11 farmers in Teso District, Kenya. She joined One Acre Fund for the first time in 2012 and decided to represent her group because she wanted to be more active in her community.

With a portion of this loan, Violet will purchase maize seeds and fertilizer for the coming harvest season, as well as two solar lights. Receiving two solar lights as part of her loan means she will be able to have light during dark hours for her children to be able to study. Violet plans to use the profits she gains this year to send her children to school.

In total, Violet’s Group will use the inputs received from this loan to plant a total of 7.25 acres. They will also receive a total of four solar lights.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
