A loan of $525 helped a member buy packets of Maggi cubes, bags of salt and rice, and gallons of palm oil.

Agnes Group's story

Pictured here are members of the 'Agnes' group from Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. These women are small-scale businesswomen who have applied for a loan of SLL 1,000,000 for each person in the group from SMT, a partner of Kiva in Sierra Leone. With the help of this loan, they will be able to improve their businesses both in terms of size and quality.

Kaday K. is the leader of this group of two. Kaday is approximately 50 years old. She was born in Makeni, is married to a motor-mechanic, and they have six children – two in college and four in secondary school. Kaday has been selling market-food for quite a number of years now. With her share of this loan, she will further expand her business by buying packets of Maggi cubes (used to give sauce a sweet taste), bags of salt and rice, and gallons of palm oil (the most popular cooking oil).

In this group: Kaday, Nasiratu
