A loan helped an ever smiling mom to buy farm inputs such as certified, quality seed and fertilizer, to improve her crop farming.

Henrietta's story

Henrietta (65 years old mom of 6) is the true definition of a hard worker and an ever smiling happy mother. She is a farmer in Nyamira, growing maize and engaging in dairy farming. She produces milk and eggs for commercial purposes as opposed to many rural farmers who produce for subsistence. Henrietta also grows maize for food and sales. These commercial activities place her in a better position to engage in other agricultural businesses, which she does.

The Nyamira area is a favorable one for farming, so she is seeking a 100,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Nyamira, is very challenging, but Henrietta feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself, secure her children’s future, and buy a home.

Kindly lend to a Kenyan farmer with great dreams!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
