A loan of $2,475 helped a member fix vehicle, buy merchandise.

Diamantes Group's story

The Diamantes (Diamonds) Communal Bank is in their fifth cycle. It is comprised of nine members, seven women and two men. Most of the members live in the Kupini Zone, which is located in the area surrounding the bus stop for line 16. The members sell various products like clothes, notebooks, cosmetics, and carpentry, etc.

In the last cycle everyone paid except for two members whose payments were in arrears. They were removed from the bank, and the rest of the members paid without delay. Only four members remained, and the rest of the members are new.

Bertha represents the bank, and she is currently the president. She has been buying and selling autos for seven years. She also acts as an independent taxi driver. The loan is to fix her vehicle. She is a widow with two children. She knew how to get her children ahead through her work. She has stood out in her communal bank as a responsible person who is punctual with her payments.

Laura is the treasurer of the bank. She sells school materials in a bookstore, which is located at the stop for bus line 16. She has been doing this for one year. The loan is to buy school materials wholesale. She is married to Valentin, who works at the bus terminal. They have two school-age children. She was elected as a representative of her communal bank because she is responsible. She has demonstrated this to her colleagues for two cycles, and she will do so again.

Rocío was elected as the secretary. She sells domestic appliances and other devices at fairs. On other days she sells in the central zone of the city of La Paz. She is married to Boris, a driver. The loan is to buy merchandise.

All of the members are responsible and hard-working. They are grateful to Emprender and Kiva for the confidence shown in granting the loan.
