Carlos's story

Carlos Castellón OC. is a 36 years old gentleman who lives with his wife and child in a community called Santa Fe, which is located in Los Chiles, Alajuela Province. The community is situated in a mountainous area near the northern border of the country. The main economic activities are ranching and farming, with specific emphasis on the cultivation of grains, sugar cane, and oranges.

Don Carlos has been raising cattle for several years. He sells to the neighbors in his community who are very satisfied with quality of his products, especially the milk. Don Carlos is grateful for the progress of his business, which will allow him to build his own home. He is still living at his parents’ house with his wife and daughter.

At the moment, Don Carlos wants to obtain a microloan in the amount of 665,000 CRC so that he can buy grass seeds and maintain the corral where he keeps his cows. This will help him improve his business and generate the income he needs to build his own house.

Don Carlos is a member of Manantial de Santa Fe Communal Credit Enterprise, one of 100 member organizations that make up EDESA in Costa Rica. This is his first loan and he hopes to grow personally and financially. He assures us that this loan provides great motivation for him to work hard so that he can access future loans and become a successful micro-entrepreneur.
