Jibu Tanzania is affiliated with Jibu L3C, which is a Kiva Field Partner and has received a Kiva Direct-to-Social Enterprise loan. See the loan profile here

25 million Tanzanians lack access to clean water. With more than a quarter of the population living below the poverty line, Tanzania lacks the critical infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water.

Jibu Tanzania provides affordable, quality drinking water solutions to Tanzanians living on $2 to $10 per day in urban and peri-urban communities where citizens typically drink untreated or boiled water. By providing packaged refillable safe drinking water, Jibu reduces household costs, respiratory illness and carbon emissions caused by boiling water over wood and charcoal. Jibu has been successful in Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya with over 45 million litres of water distributed, 550 jobs created, and 195 social businesses launched. Jibu Tanzania is bringing the Jibu model to Tanzania and has already established 10 franchises.

This Kiva loan of $50,000 will enable Jibu Tanzania to launch two drinking water franchises in Dar es Salaam impacting an additional 10,000 households and creating 20 job opportunities. Each franchise store build-out will include water filtration units, refillable bottle inventories, and marketing campaigns.

This loan is special because:

everyone in Tanzania deserves access to clean and safe drinking water.
