A loan of $1,050 helped purchase plain vases, artificial flowers, and rocking chairs.

Orlando's story

Orlando P. M. is 44 years old and lives in the Las Palmas neighborhood of the city of Barranquilla. He has a flower-arranging business called "La Bendición García." He and his wife buy flowers and plain jars, which they turn into beautiful decorated vases containing gorgeous artifical flowers. They have two salesmen and deliver throughout all of Barranquilla in two three-wheeled wooden vehicles called "carretillas." They are currently requesting a loan in the amount of 2,000,000 pesos to buy vases and artifical flowers in Pondedera, a town in the department of Atlántico. They will also buy rocking chairs that come from San Pues, in the department of Sucre.

They started their flower-arranging business four years ago, and started selling rocking chairs and other merchandise two years ago. Two employees take care of the sales, and the business offers weekly and other types of payment plans, which Orlando charges for.

This is his third loan with the Fundación Santo Domingo. He's used the financing to increase his sales, which is why they now have two employees to share the work. His dream is to set up a distribution business that would deliver merchandise to all the communities in the greater Barranquilla metropolitan area.
