A loan of $1,250 helped a member buying grains.

Dembagnouma Group's story

The group Dembagnouma is composed of married women who average 32 years of age and four children each.  The women live in nuclear families with their children and husbands in the village of Sido, Prefecture of Bougouni (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).  The women know one another through business.

Intending to improve their purchasing capacity, in order to satisfy the needs of their customers, the women decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso to do commerce in grains.  They are now on their seventh group loan.  The previous six loans were all properly repaid.

With this new loan, they intend to buy 700 kg of fonio (a local grain), a tonne of pearl millet, and 500 kg of corn.  The goods are purchased at the Sido market and from surrounding areas and are then sold, cash or credit accepted, to the wholesalers of Bougouni.  Their customer base is composed of men and women.

With this loan, the women hope to obtain a profit of 40,000 francs per month that will be reused in their work.

In this group: Chata, Sebe, Binta, Yiridio
