A loan of $775 helped to buy fertilizer and manure.

Miguel Ángel's story

Miguel Ángel A. B., 43, is married and his wife is a fruit merchant in the central market. They have been farmers for the past 28 years; they grow pineapple, coffee and banana. They have three children; the oldest helps Mr. A. with the farming chores and the two youngest are in elementary school.

Their farmlands have suffered erosion due to excess water run-off. They began their farm work thanks to the Agrarian Reform laws of the 1980s.

They are asking for funding now to do some soil maintenance work. They will buy various kinds of fertilizers and manure to gradually improve the eroded fields so that they can diversify crops in the future in order to provide improved economic benefits for the entire family.
