A loan of $300 helped to buy knitting needles and beauty products.

Giovanna's story

Giovanna is 43 years old, separated and has five children. The three oldest have their own families and she lives with the two minors and her mother in a highly populated neighborhood in the southern part of Lima. Giovanna's story begins one afternoon when she was sitting in the doorway of her home with her mother. She was knitting sweaters for her young children because she didn't have the money to buy them instead. Then, a stranger passed by and fell in love with her knitting. Since then, they agreed that she would give her yarn and patterns and Giovanna would take care of the knitting. She has spent 15 years knitting with her mother on the sofa in their home, making sure the thread does not get dirty, since the garments will be exported to Italy. She feels good about her work and is content with what she does, since these earnings help proviD. for her children. Likewise, she invests the surplus in the purchase of beauty products, since her goal is to increase her income in order to pay for her children's education in the future. This is her first loan with MFP, and she has promised to pay on time for her knitting needles of various sizes and she will buy more beauty products with the rest of the loan.
