A loan of $350 helped buy products for resale.

Merly's story

Merly, 53, is married and has three children, two of whom are married and independent. She lives with a daughter and son-in-law in a house that she owns. For many years, Merly operated a business selling fish and other seafood, a business that she knows well but had to leave when she became ill. For the past 7 years, she's made a living in her local market selling clothing and footwear. Little by little, she's built a customer base. Her earnings have climbed because she can offer a wide variety of merchandise. She works non-stop from 11:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. Her son helps her on weekends. She is very happy with the business because it has helped to support her family and, in the future, she wants to expand it and increase her income even more. This will be her 24th MFP loan. She says that she is very comfortable with the other members of her community bank because she considers them responsible. She will use the loan to buy school shoes for the new school year.
