A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Chiku's Group's story

Chiku, pictured above, has been a farmer for more than 20 years, and is now proud to represent her group of 11 farmers in Iringa District. She is 67 years old, married and has 2 children.

Chiku likes to think of herself as a very experienced farmer. She has been working alongside One Acre Fund since 2016 and decided to represent her group because she wanted to be more active in her community. She says that being part of the One Acre Fund community has meant that she has been able to consistently feed her family. Chiku plans to use the profits from this coming season to buy chickens.

In total, Chiku’s Group will receive inputs to cultivate 13.5 acres of land. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 3 solar lights.

In this group: Chiku, Amani, Geritha, Brastus, Anjelista, Ashura, Bitris, Jackobo, Antifonia, Klea, Menad

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
