A loan of $225 helped purchase of palm wine and sugar to make "Sodabi".

K. Marie's story

Marie K G. was born in 1973 in Djigbé, in the Ouémé region of Bénin. Marie has lived for twelve years in Hozin, not far from Porto-Novo, the administrative capital of Bénin. Married to Paul Zounmenou, a chauffeur, Marie is the mother of five children, some of whom went to school. Only two of the children still live under their parents' care. The family lives together and the couple provides for the family's different needs.
Marie never attended school. Almost eight years ago, Marie began preparing and selling the local alcoholic beverage (commonly called "Sodabi") from her home. Marie stocks up on palm wine and sugar in Cotonou, in preparation for making the drink. Marie has already benefited from two loans from ALIDé, loans which she repaid in full. Marie is asking for a third loan to strengthen her business by making more drinks and thus seeing a higher profit.
